Frequently asked questions
Is it legal to download YouTube videos?
Download only public videos for personal use, respecting YouTube's Terms of Service and copyright laws.
Which videos are not supported?
Private, removed, age-restricted (+18) or region-blocked videos cannot be processed.
Do I need an account?
No account is needed for free downloads. An account is only required to buy credits for high-resolution downloads.
Why is high resolution paid?
Up to 720p YouTube keeps a single file with video and audio already together — your browser downloads it straight from the source and nothing touches our servers. That is why it is free.
Above 720p there is no such ready-made file: the picture sits in one stream and the sound in another. For you to get an MP4 that plays with sound, we download both to our server and merge them. The merge copies the original data without re-encoding, so the result is exactly the quality YouTube handed over — re-encoding would be cheaper for us and worse for you. The file travels twice, from YouTube to us and from us to you, and is deleted from the server as soon as it finishes arriving. That is the cost the credit covers.
Save the file on your phone
Open SaveTube in your browser, copy the link using YouTube’s Share button and choose MP3 or an available MP4 resolution. After downloading, check the device’s Downloads folder. On iPhone, check Safari’s Downloads list and the Files app.
If the download does not start
Check the public video link and your connection. Private, removed, age-restricted, region-blocked and live videos are not supported. For high resolution, sign in and check your credit balance; for free downloads, check the daily allowance shown by the tool.
